*Jungian Analysts and Therapists: If you use different tools and methods to approach the unconscious and would like to know how to combine a Mandala Art Session with your practice… Let’s talk.

How many of your conversations in a day are real?

My mandala art time with Betty reminded me of what authentic words are about. She felt into her experience of me and fashioned an image from that experience which reflected who I am and what I value. You might call it mirroring from inside the heart. Discussing the image she drew and painted, based on her interior impressions of me, grounded us in a rich dialogue about where my life is at the moment and where it is going. The soul is nourished by a slice of real in a time of thin, multitasking mania. Betty is a honest, solid, insightful, and inspiring original. Thank you, Betty.

Her approach was to think of someone in particular, known or unknown, while her drawing began to take shape freely on the paper ... a kind of intuitive reading that she did on the person

In Jungian psychology the mandala is a symbol of the self. So the mandala is always kind of giving you a map of where you're at. You can draw your mandala or if you are particularly insightful person, you can draw a mandala for someone else, which is what Betty does. There's an oracular quality to her work which I found really cool and we had a long conversation about the picture afterwards and she had incredible insights into my psyche... I felt that I was in good hands so I was totally safe but it was pretty uncanny at times what she was coming out with. It was almost like getting a reading from a really talented fortune teller.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do we need to meet prior the creation of a mandala?

No. All I need is your name or the name of the person you are gifting a mandala to in order to create one. In fact, the least I know the better.

2. Could I get a mandala done even if we don’t speak the same language?

Yes. As long as we can communicate during the session in Spanish or English - the two languages I speak fluently - you can get a mandala done (unless you have a translator).

3. How long does the session last?

The session last around 1hr or 1.5 hrs max.

4. How does your process of creating a mandala work?

It’s a process that combines meditation, image and word, as I draw and write down what I perceive during the 3 hours it takes me to create a mandala. Feelings, sensations, thoughts, emotions and intuitions are constantly engaged during the process, bringing forth what you need to know about yourself, conscious and unconscious working together, resulting in a mandala reflecting the totality of who you are and what you are about at the present moment.

5. Can I keep the notes from my session?

Yes. You will take home your mandala to continue working and meditating with it as many times as you wish to, along with the notes taken during the process of creation.

6. Why is important to create a mandala or to have one done?

In the Mandala Art Session we work with the mandala as an entry point into the inner world —the unconscious— getting a glimpse into what this other side looks like. Learning to establish a dialogue with soul and exploring the dynamics within helps us to become more conscious of what and who we are as individuals and the role we play in the world. The mandala helps us to center ourselves, bringing the many pieces of our story together. Exploring the symbolic language of soul while cultivating our capacity to create helps us become conscious of instincts, emotions and feelings, which are essential for psychological and spiritual growth. To my mind the development of soul is part of our human heritage and responsibility to the world, and the next step in the evolution of consciousness.

7. How did you begin to create mandalas?

I was introduced to mandalas, active imagination and dream work over fifteen years ago while going through analysis with a remarkable psychologist and Jungian analyst in Venezuela. It was a way of spontaneously express my creativity and engage with my inner world while healing the fractures within me, helping not only to recognize and embrace my natural gift but also introducing me to the legacy of Carl Jung’s work. It was the beginning of my commitment and dedication to soul and Jung’s work and I haven’t stop ever since.
